Brazilian jiu-jitsu
Keeping Our Officers and Our Community Safe
Here’s Why Every Police Officer Should Train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu…
Police Self Defense training is very specialized. Police officers have to learn self defense for both armed and unarmed situations. They need knowledge of a martial art that can subdue a criminal suspect without harming them. Grappling arts suit these needs perfectly as they allow for control of the suspect without striking them. This is why Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), known as the “Gentle Art”, is essential for todays law enforcement officers.
Combat Effectivness
Trained officers can rely on the effectiveness and efficiency of Jiu-Jitsu skills when dealing with violent individuals. In addition to extreme effectiveness and efficiency the techniques and strategies of Jiu Jitsu can be applied without the use of excessive force and allow a seemingly smaller and weaker practitioner to effortlessly subdue bigger and stronger opponents.
Respect
It is the foundation of Jiu-Jitsu practice. Students are required to conduct themselves and treat others with the utmost respect. Jiu-Jitsu practitioners learn to become model citizens of the community.
Stress Relief & Comfort In Stressful Situations
Jiu-Jitsu is a great outlet for relieving stress from work in a fun, healthy and educational environment. Staying calm in stressful situations can be tough but is a necessity for reacting precisely and efficiently. Jiu Jitsu teaches you how to stay calm in uncomfortable situations and to not overreact or lose your cool.
Health & Fitness
Jiu-Jitsu truly encompasses all aspects of fitness and promotes a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss, functional strength gains, cardio gains, increased reaction timing, increased awareness are all improved by training Jiu Jitsu.
Sensei Nakapan Phungephorn
I’ve taught martial arts for over 30 years and have helped many law enforcement officers learn the art of Jiu-Jitsu. I’ve worked with officers from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Montgomer County Swat Team, State Department, FBI and the Federal Marshalls. I was a DC Resident for 15 years and the owner/operator of the District’s largest and longest running martial arts academy. I have a vested interest in keeping our community safe and see Jiu-Jitsu training as the solution to many of modern day policing’s problems.
